How Much Does A Headshot Cost In Montgomery County MD?
If you've been putting off getting a professional headshot because you're not sure what it's going to cost, this post is for you. Headshot pricing varies widely depending on where you go and what's included — and most photographers make you contact them just to find out. Here's a straightforward breakdown of what professional headshots cost in the Montgomery County and Washington, D.C. area, and what you should expect to get for your money.
What does a professional headshot session cost?
In the Montgomery County, Maryland and greater D.C. metro area, professional headshot pricing typically falls into three ranges:
Budget ($75–$150): Usually a quick session without any real coaching, limited backdrop options, and digital files included. You get what you pay for — technically a headshot, but often stiff, generic, and unmemorable. Common at pop-up headshot events or chain portrait studios. Most of these are not pro level photographers.
Professional ($250–$600 session fee): A fully guided, personalized session with professional lighting, expert posing and expression coaching, and a curated image selection process. This is where most working professionals, executives, attorneys, and business owners land. Image costs may be separate. These are more collaborative processes rather than you come in, shoot, and get what you get. I review all images with my clients before they pick favorites.
High-end ($800–$2,000+): Usually associated with personal branding photographers who offer full styling, multiple looks, and large image packages. Appropriate for public figures, C-suite executives, and speakers who need extensive content. These prices start to get more into the personal branding realm where you’re leaving with 50 or more images.
How much do I charge for headshots in Montgomery County?
All my sessions begin with a $250 session fee. Here's what that covers:
A fully guided session from start to finish
Wardrobe consultation before you arrive
Expert coaching on pose and facial expression throughout
Professional image review on a large monitor at the end of your session
Images are purchased separately at $195 each. You select your favorites at the end of the session — you only pay for the ones you love. Most clients leave with 3–5 images.
No packages to decipher. No hidden fees. No surprises. I do offer collection pricing if you like a lot of images at discounted price.

Why are images priced separately?
Most people come into a headshot session thinking they need one image. By the end of the session, after seeing themselves looking genuinely confident and natural on a large screen, most people want more than one.
Pricing images separately means you're not paying upfront for a package of images you haven't seen yet. You see your images first, fall in love with the ones that work, and purchase only those. It keeps the process honest and puts you in control of what you spend. Nothing worse than having an hour session and leaving with 5 images you don’t like. With live review we can re-shoot and fix any issues in real time.
What should I be skeptical of?
A few things worth watching for when comparing headshot photographers in the Montgomery County and D.C. area:
"Everything included" packages with no image review process. If a photographer is handing you 50 edited images without a curation process, you're paying for quantity over quality — and most of those images will look nearly identical. If you’re not able to see them as you go, there could be a good reason why!
Very low session fees with high per-image costs. A $99 session fee sounds appealing until you find out images are $300 each.
No coaching mentioned anywhere. If a photographer's website doesn't talk about posing or expression guidance, assume you won't get any. The difference between a good headshot and a great one is almost always in the expression — and that requires active coaching, not just pointing a camera. A website with the same three headshots placed over and over again. This is generally a sign that the photographer has not had many clients. They may be just starting out and don’t have the content yet, worth watching out for though.
Is a professional headshot worth the investment?
1000% yes! Your headshot appears on your LinkedIn profile, your company website, your speaker bio, your email signature, and anywhere your name shows up online. It's working for you — or against you — every time someone looks you up before a meeting, a pitch, or a hiring decision.
If you session costs you $500, but you get images that you can use across your socials and website for years that will represent you as the professional leader that you are, that’s a great return on investment.
