Frequently Asked Questions

  • Trust the old adage, dress for the job you want. Wear something professional, like you’re meeting a client or going to a business meeting. Make sure your outfits fit you well. Have them ironed and ready to go.

What To Wear For A Profesional Headshot

  • I would update them any time your physical appearance changes. Weight loss, drastic hair changes. Then aim for a once a year. It’s best that your headshot reflects who you are now and actually looks like you.

  • 100%! Everyone is coached one posture, facial expressions and body language. I know we’re not all models and being in front of the camera can be uncomfortable.

    Facial Expression Coaching

  • Absolutely. Most people use these on LinkedIn, their website, company directory and email signatures.

  • A typical headshot session is about an hour long. This gives us enough time to chat about your work and what you’re looking for. Often they’re done in 30 mins. Sessions can take as long or little as it needs to be to get you a killer headshot.

  • The most common backdrop color is grey or white. I use those with everyone. I do have colored backdrops and some textured canvas drops that can add some punch if you want to get creative. I love a little color in a headshot.

About John

I have been shooting professional headshots for a little more than five years, but I figured out the most important part of this work long before that.

I started by photographing musicians at school. When I stopped trying to pose them and just talked to them like a normal person, something clicked. The expressions got real. The photos were great!. It turned out the secret to a great photo was not a perfect pose. It was an actual conversation.

I took that same approach to shooting doctors for ZocDoc. Same result. People who expected to hate the experience left genuinely happy with what they saw. Not because I had some technical trick, but because they felt comfortable enough to just be themselves.

That is what I bring to every session. You do not need to know how to pose. You do not need to perform confidence you do not feel. You just need to show up. The rest is my job.
