I often get asked if I shoot outside, or just in the studio. I love to shoot headshots sessions outdoors. I shoot outdoor headshot sessions the same as I do indoors, focused on interacting and expression. The short answer is yes, we can shoot a session where ever you want!

The question becomes, what kind of vibe do you want for your brand? What kind of look are you going for? What kind of business do you have? I don’t shoot a lot of CEO or corporate headshots outdoors but I do shoot a lot of small business owners, people who are busy in their communities, real estate agents, and political headshots outdoors. Shooting your headshots outdoors can be a great way to add context to your images. I recently photographed a gentleman who is actively working with his community so we decided to use that community center as the backdrop.

One thing to keep in mind is the purpose of your headshot. It’s not just to so people can see what you look like. People are judging you on your headshot the moment they see it. They will decide whether or not you look confident, approachable or likable, this is why I focus on expression in my sessions. If you prefer a softer vibe for your headshots, something more along the lines of branding photography and outdoor headshot session might be best for you. Krista is an interior and exterior decorator. She really wanted to be photographed on her property to show some context that she works with exteriors. So, rather than the in studio tight headshot, we went with full body and 3/4 body branding styled photos for her.
